ARUI: Vision-Driven Field Robots

In 2021, we launched our robotics project "ARUI-I" to compete in the Field Robot Competition at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST). Motivated to do better, we worked hard and developed "ARUI-II" the following year, which helped us achieve great success at the 2022 Field Robot Competition hosted by National Taiwan University (NTU).

Both robots were designed to avoid obstacles in the field using a front-facing camera combined with side ultrasonic sensors. They were powered by an NVIDIA Jetson TX2 for vision inference and an Arduino Mega to control hardware components.

However, they have some key differences: ARUI-I features a large robotic arm and an electromagnet to grab objects, while ARUI-II uses two stepper motors and a servo for more precise grasping. ARUI-I has a flat design to climb sloped hills, whereas ARUI-II has two layers to accommodate a water container used for plant watering.
